Cookbook
Behind-The-Scenes
I'm taking you through my thought process as I plan and brainstorm for the shoot. I'll also show you my organizational back-end for planning for large projects like cookbooks, and how I keep my styling notes and inspiration handy and readily available.
Join me as I make my prop selections for the photoshoot. I'll talk you through my strategy for packing for a location shoot, so you can make sure not to overpack, but still give yourself options, too!
Shadow me in my kitchen as I start preparing the dish and share my thought process and techniques for plating and adding texture through the preparation process. This is such an important part of food styling, since the decisions you make when the dish is being made have a huge impact on how it looks in frame.
Watch and learn as I set up the scene outdoors in the forest, battling changing lighting conditions and styling an area for the subject. I talk through my camera settings and why I have them set to certain specifications, especially when I'm shooting for publication like a book.
I'm taking you through how I sort and make selects for photoshoots in Lightroom, and how I typically organize large photography projects like cookbooks within the application. You'll also soak up my editing process for the final image and learn step-by-step as I shape and adjust the frame .
I recommend following along step-by-step in the order the behind-the-scenes videos are laid out in the virtual workshop.
Each video builds on what was covered in the previous one, so by going in order of appearance you'll be soaking up all the information in the best possible way. And it will most realistically give you the knowledge & understanding of shadowing me from start to finish on a cookbook shoot.
All the videos from the virtual workshop combined give you over 2 hours of rich and concise helpful behind-the-scenes information.
There is o filler content here, just a raw real honest helpful look at how I got about planning for executing, and editing a cookbook photoshoot.
This virtual workshop is for anyone who is interested in photographing either a cookbook (whether for a client or for themselves), or for anyone who is interested in seeing a raw look at my photography process for a large project.
You do not need any equipment to participate in the virtual workshop. Just sit back, soak everything up, and learn! :)
Yes! The live Q&A taking place on August 8th at 10 am PST will be recorded and uploaded to the Virtual Workshop once it occurs.
I'll also have a digital submission form, so if you can't make the live session you can submit your questions beforehand to have it answered.
The live Q&A will the recorded and uploaded to the virtual workshop afterwards 👍
Hey there! I’m Eva, and I learned photography on a film camera dark room-style when I was 15 (which was a loooong time ago). I have a Saveur-nominated food blog, Adventures in Cooking, and have written + shot two cookbooks, Adventures in Chicken and First We Eat, which was nominated by IACP for 2019's best cookbook. I've also shot the Wicked Healthy cookbook and Everyone's Table cookbook and am currently shooting Gregory Gourdet's next cookbook project!
I’ve shot for clients as big as 7-Up, and as small as local restaurants. I’ve done takeovers on the @Instagram main feed, my work’s been featured in dozens of magazines + publications, and I work full-time doing what I love—photography and teaching.
I've taught thousands of students, both online and in-person, and hosted hundreds of hours of photography + styling workshops all over the world. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a familiar face as students regularly come back for to learn more!

"One of the best decisions I've made in my photography career was to sign up for one of Eva's courses. Not only are the courses super approachable and inspiring, Eva is one of the most encouraging and supportive teachers I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. That support and encouragement has been vital to my own growth and confidence as a photographer. If you're on the fence about signing up for one of her courses, I highly recommend taking the leap and going for it!"

"Eva's teaching system is very complete, not only for all the knowledge she shares throughout unique and amazing videos, but also for all the extra materials and resources she offers. Because she has extensive technical, creative, and business knowledge, you can ask any question you have and I assure you that Eva will answer it. She does not keep any secrets to herself. She shares all her knowledge with you, and she will guide and advise you throughout your learning process."

"I can honestly say that taking courses from Eva was just so lovely. I have taken courses with two other online mentors. One only answered 4-5 questions that were put into messages and mostly chatted with her assistant during the Q & A….. filling time…You couldn’t ask any live questions, it was horrible, I left the call feeling taken for the course. Eva has been the opposite — *really* taking the time to thoroughly answer questions and not rush everyone---and help people at whatever level of expertise they are at. She meets you where you are so sincerely!"

"Taking one of Eva's courses was a major turning point in building my own successful career as an artist. She explained technicalities in an approachable way and then how to apply those elements in a real life way to my work. Afterwards I was able to not only consistently produce quality images, but use that knowledge to shape my own personal style. I wasn't a beginner by any means coming into her course, but her teaching style made things 'click' in a way they never had previously. I would recommend her as an instructor to anyone looking to further their skills and confidence as a creator."
